Seniors: wear suitable glasses

A large number of elderly people do not wear glasses adapted to their vision. According to a study by the Journal of the American medical association (Jama), 4 out of 10 seniors wear unsuitable glasses. Often for financial reasons, seniors tend to neglect their visual health, even though they are often the most affected. However, almost half of the elderly people concerned could have improved eyesight thanks to corrections adapted to their disorders, whether it be myopia, astigmatism or farsightedness.

Greater dependence on vision problems

Eyesight problemsare disabling on a daily basis. As we get older, we are more at risk and we may find ourselves in a situation of daily dependence. Indeed, a significant drop in vision prevents the person concerned from making certain usual gestures such as driving for example. However, many older people continue to wear unsuitable glasses. Whatever the reasons, financial or otherwise, wearing unsuitable glasses is not without consequences. In addition to the risk of falling, quality of life is affected, as are activities of daily living, which can also lead to depression due to isolation.

How to choose your eyeglasses well ?

The most important aspect of choosing new lenses should not be overlooked: the type of correction. Thus, in case of presbyopia, it would be necessary to bring two pairs of glasses, to see near and far. Otherwise, we should favor bifocals, or progressive glasses, more modern and aesthetic.

The aesthetic side

Another criteria that comes into consideration is the frame. Shape, color, the aesthetic aspect could encourage the elderly to put aside their old frames in favor of a more suitable pair. So, it is advisable to favor light colors when you get older because too dark frames tend to harden the look. Then, of course, you have to choose a pair of glasses according to the shape of your face.

Do not hesitate to ask your optician for advice. It will help you find a pair of glasses that are perfectly suited, both medically and aesthetically. You will be offered a large choice of frames, depending on your budget or simply your preferences.
